Manipur-Nagaland Tour Itinerary

8 nights – (4N) Imphal-(4N) Kohima (27 th November-4 th December, 2023)

Day 1
Arrive at Imphal.
Check-in at Hotel Classic Grand Radisson (or similar)
Post light lunch at hotel (to be paid by the guests), proceed for a guided tour of the iconic Kangla Fort. (The tour of the fort should take 1-1.5 hours)
Visit a local Meitei household to see a Manipuri cultural performance.
Return to the property for a story telling session on the history & tradition of Manipur.

Day 2
Visit a Manipuri establishment to observe the preparation of local cuisine.
Thereafter, drive to the historic Khongjom War Memorial that was established in memory of the Anglo-Manipuri war of 1891.
Return to enjoy a sumptuous ethnic meal at a local restaurant that serves ethnic Manipuri cuisine (to be paid by Wanderers)
(Proceed to festival ground to watch various activities at the Sangai Festival if trip is during festival time – end Nov-beginning Dec)
Move out of the festival ground to visit the Govindaji Temple for an evening Aarti.
Thereafter, proceed to the RKCS Art Gallery to see the remarkable series of 72 realistic life size oil paintings themed on Manipuri history by eminent artist, Raj Kumar Chandrajit Sana Singh before you return to your hotel.
(Return to the festival ground to watch a few cultural programs if trip is during festival time – end Nov-beginning Dec)

Day 3
Excursion to Loktak Lake
On the way to Loktak Lake, stop by at historic landmarks such as the India Peace Mission at Maibam, INA War Memorial and INA Headquarters at Moirang.
Arrive at the beautiful Loktak, the largest fresh water lake of Northeast India that is famous for its phumdis or floating islands.
Lunch at a resort overlooking the lake (to be paid by the guests)
Boating at the Loktak Lake (Marvel at the vegetation that floats across the lake).
Return to Imphal to rest for the day

Day 4
Pay homage at the Imphal War Cemetery and the Indian Army War Cemetery to the brave soldiers who laid their life during the Japanese attack of 1944.
Thereafter, visit the Ima Keithel which translates to ‘Mother’s Market’ (It is the largest women’s market in Asia).
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant (to be paid by the guests).
Evening free for leisure

Day 5 - Kohima
Proceed to Kohima by road.
Check-in to de Oriental Grand (or similar) at Kohima.
Take rest for the day at your property

Day 6
Post-breakfast, proceed to Kisama to join the Hornbill Festival (popularly known as the Festival of Festivals).
At the festival ground, watch traditional performances amid a riot of colours, check out local Naga cuisine and shop traditional art and handicraft.
Proceed to a restaurant not far from the venue for lunch (to be paid by the guests).
Post lunch, return to the festival ground to check out cultural and sport performances.
Return to hotel and after some rest, sit down for a story telling session on Naga tradition and folklore.

Day 7
Sightseeing in Kohima
Visit the Nagaland State Museum,
War Cemetery (that is a tribute to the soldiers who died in the Japanese attack of 1944) and Kohima Cathedral Church.
Lunch at a restaurant in Kohima town (to be paid by the guests)
Visit Mao Market before you proceed to Kisama for another cultural treat at the Hornbill Festival.
After you return to the property and freshen up, proceed to a local café for drinks and dinner.

Day 8
Day excursion to the beautiful historical village of Khonoma (approx. travel time one way: 1 hr, located amidst terraced rice fields and sprawling acres of community forests. Khonoma is also known as ‘Green Village’ since it was the first village in Nagaland to abandon hunting in 1998). Walk and explore the fortified Angami village which was attacked several times by the British colonists.

Have lunch at a local Angami household before you return to Kohima (to be paid by the guests) Depart from Khonoma for Kohima

Upon return and after some rest, walk through the bustling night bazaar of Kohima before return to your hotel.

Day 9 – Last Day
After an early breakfast, proceed to Dimapur airport and fly back home
