Offbeat Goa

Goa – 3N/4D

Goa, where the sun, sand and sea all converge is a travellers paradise. Besides the scenic beaches and the rocking nightlife there’s a lot to explore in Goa from the beautiful churches and ancient temples, old forts and pretty Portuguese villages to adventurous water sports, flea markets and a night of gambling at the casino.

A minimum of a week is required to see and do so much. However, if you have a time constraint, we have planned a perfect itinerary for you wherein you can explore the best of Goa over a long weekend.

Itinerary: 3 nights and 4 days

Day 1: Arrive and explore North Goa
On Arrival at Dabolim (Goa airport) our representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. After checking in and freshening up, visit the sun-kissed beaches in North Goa. There are a number of beaches to choose from like Baga, Calangute, Anjuna and Morjim. You can choose 2 to 3 depending on your interest and the time you have.

Baga Beach: For water sports like scuba diving, jet skiing and paragliding, dolphin cruises and banana, bumper and boat rides
Calangute Beach: For swimming, long walks, sunbathing, surfing, catamaran sailing and water skiing
Anjuna Beach: For water sports, Ayurvedic massages, hair braids and temporary tattoos
Morjim: Head to Morjim to get a taste of what hippie beaches in Goa look like.
(Water sports are optional and on actual payment basis)

Spend some-time at the Wednesday Flea market at Anjuna which is very famous especially if you are there on a Wednesday. After lunch (on your own) at one of the many beach shacks or a restaurant, head towards the iconic Chapora Fort (where the famous Dil Chahta Hai sequence was shot) located next to Vagator Beach. A spectacular view of Goa from the Fort makes the climb (not too difficult) worth it. You can view the captivating sunset from here.

Post this, head to Vagator Beach and unwind under the starlit sky. Vagator is a clean, quiet isolated beach. Relax, soak in the cool breeze, hear the sounds of the waves lapping the shore under the beautiful night sky. Have dinner at one of the restaurants serving exotic Goan cuisine in the area and head back to the hotel.

Day 2: Visit Old Goa and Panjim
Post breakfast, drive towards Old Goa (or Velha). One the capital of Portuguese India, Velha has many colonial era historical buildings.

Visit the gorgeous Goa UNESCO World heritage site-the Basilica of Bom Jesus. It holds the remains of St. Francis Xavier, a Roman Catholic saint who died on 3 December 1552, but whose body has still not decayed even today.

From here, head to the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, an architectural marvel built by the Portuguese in 1961.

Next head to Se Cathedral and Museum of Christian Art, both give you an insight into the lineage and history of Goa.

Now head Towards Panjim. Drive through the cobblestone streets and bright, colourful Portuguese-era houses to get a true feel of what the real Goa is. En route, catch a glimpse of some of the most popular landmarks in the area - Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception and Fontainhas Latin Quarter.

Post lunch on your own (suggestion – enjoy an authentic Goan meal at one of the popular restaurants or cafes, do try the local Goan bread- Poe.), head towards Miramar Beach. After spending a couple of hours at the tranquil Miramar Beach, prepare yourself for the experience of a lifetime: an hour-long boat cruise on Mandovi. The relaxed sail, traditional dance performances like Dekhni and Fugdi, DJ music, sightseeing and the best of all, the enchanting Goan sunset all make it a memorable experience. (Last Cruise: around 8.00 pm). Head back to the hotel.

Day 3: Explore South Goa
Post breakfast drive towards South Goa. Visit the uniquely designed beautiful Salaulim Dam. It is one of the best picnic spots where one can spend leisurely hours basking in the sunlight and indulge in bird-watching.

From Salaulim Dam, head towards Cabo De Rama fort, built by the local Soonda rulers but overtaken and modernized by the Portugese in 1763. Attached to the fort is a tiny 500 mtr long Cabo de Rama beach. The fort itself is spread over 18000 square meters and is presently in ruins, but given its picturesque location is still worth a visit and some cool photos.

Now head towards the stunning Palolem Beach (one of the cleanest and calmest beaches in all of the south). Spend sometime walking up and down the beach, climbing rocks. The water is relatively shallow and the beach itself is a sight to behold.

Head back to the hotel enjoying dinner on way.
